Take That! Performance Night x 3

Date: July 9, 2007

Artists: Fredrik Axwik (Sweden), Caleb Speller, Jennifer Leroux (Victoria)

Artists' talk and screening: July 9 (Axwik at The Ministry of Casual Living)

Amidst the sunny heat and throngs of tourist’s feet exploring Victoria’s downtown zone this summer, three performance projects explored gaps in the normal entertainment fare for buffet dazed nomadic audiences. Open Space performance was pleased to host an evening of performance art by three artists who explore different ways to interact and interject public spaces with protest actions, group narcissism, and depths of expression often found behind closed doors.

Artist's talk: 8 p.m.

www.exchangeproject.ca

This project exchanged the studio for the roads, truck stops, border crossings, and cities of North America. Through the untidy weaving of politics, surveillance technology, and identity construction, this performance engaged critique. Over time and with the combined effort of exchange participants, resistance, solidarity, and artistic critique emerged.

Politics: Exchange engaged in cross-border, person-to-person trade negotiations. It offered artistic resistance to international economic agreements such as the North American Free Trade Agreement.
