David Cecchetto runs 1/2 Marathon for Open Space

Mission: To raise $1,000 for Open Space.

In response to the extreme cuts to British Columbia arts funding, past Open Space Programming and Board committee member David Cecchetto conducted a personal fundraising drive. His goal was to raise $1, 000 towards programming funds for the Society.

With the reddest of red-letter days fast approaching, Open Space and MediaNet resolved to decongest the holidays—to discharge the worst mutations of festive excess and waste like the gelatinous remnants of a co-dependent cold. Music, refreshment and gifts from local artists supported upcoming Open Space and MediaNet programming partnerships.

Join other artists for a special tax workshop lead by Bruce Maycock, of Maycock and Co., led a special tax workshop for artists at Open Space on March 14.

During the workshop, Bruce Maycock discussed how artists (and Revenue Canada) determine whether an art practice is considered a business. Maycock outlined the tax implications and how to prepare and file tax returns. He clarified Revenue Canada’s perspective so that artists can anticipate and plan the financial side of their art practice.

Cuts to the arts sector affects: Real Jobs; Real Families; The Real Economy.

We saw in the last federal election how Quebec artists inspired the public and turned out in record numbers to protect culture.

In February’s budget, the BC government announced that investment in the BC Arts Council was being cut drastically. While supplementary funds were found to maintain the government’s investment for the current year, arts groups around the province are looking at a reduction in government funds of 40% in 2010 and 2011.

Featuring: Meatdraw, The Revolucionary Cyborg Wedding Band, Bu?an Bu?an, Ken Gordon

Interactive organizaitional fundraiser thematizing summer weddings. Participants were invited to take part in a mock wedding ceremony complete with active chapel, Eastern European marching band, portrait studio, karaoke and performances by local escape/ entanglement artist Ken Gordon and pop band, Meatdraw.
