Movements II Collaboratory: The Roots of Movement

Date: April 29 to May 24, 1980

Movements II Collaboratory: The Roots of Movement was a four week program of workshops, lectures, demonstations and films that explored phyiscal movement. The program was coordinated by Hugh MacPherson and Anne Skinner.

Events:

May 6: "Physics and Movement: The Movement in Sub-Atomic Physics and the Universe and Our Place in the Middle" 

Dr. George Beer, a professor of Physics at the University of Victoria, gave a lecture.

May 13: "Atonomy and Movement" 

Dr. Derek French, physician and yoga practicioner and Shirley French, yoga teacher, presented a workshop dealing with the "unseen, continuous movement inside us. The nervous system and its role in movement." As well as some practical introductory work on correct body alignment.

May 20: "Social Condidtioning and Its Effects on Movement"

Kay Van Sickle, Art Therapist and Bioenergetic Therapist in Training, gave a workshop.

May 22: "Sounds, Dances, Rituals and Trances"

On various evenings throughout the collaboratory Open Space presented film viewings. The films explored "the world of sound and movement in the trances and rituals of trives, the spontaneous actions of children and animals, the unseen world of the microscopic and the creative license of animation." 

The films were also presented on May 8 and 15.
