2013 Sobey Award nominee, Amalie Atkins, creates cinematic fables through her sophisticated blend of film and textiles. From Tuesday, June 11 to Thursday, June 27, Atkins will work at Open Space, finishing the current chapter of her series, We Live on the Edge of Disaster and Imagine We Are in a Musical.

The Braid Harvesters will be on display from Friday, June 28 through Saturday, July 27.

Atkins' short films and cinematic performances borrow from the structure of traditional myths and fairy tales, while also representing personal symbolism. Set in a prairie landscape, the artist's movies are often punctuated with objects sewn from brightly coloured felt, emulating the whimsy and uncertainty of children's storybooks. Atkins intense installations generate magic by overlapping everyday life, dreams and inconclusive narratives.
