Inspired by the historical art movement of Fluxus and the creation of intermedia forms of expression, Open Space will present a programming year that aims to re-draw the interdisciplinary boundaries between concrete poetry, graphic scores, and performance art. Our goal is to embrace as yet unrecognized forms of contemporary art expression. Open Space introduces the Art App.
The Art App is an interdisciplinary instrument and program of events designed to engage audience and contemporary art. It is a digital media device that will enable the viewer to take on the role of creating and managing the information that they use to encounter, interpret, and understand their relationship to works in an exhibition, an exhibition space, and life beyond the gallery. A key component is an interactive platform in which the viewer is able to input specific parameters that will help to shape their experience and develop/redevelop levels of engagement with contemporary art.
The Art App becomes a conceptual framework for engaging with the question of audience itself. To this end, Open Space will host a series of programs over the next year employing a developmental framework used to create a digital media app as an outline to explore and critically engage interpretive methods of production, presentation, and audience engagement. We are developing the Art App over the 2013 year and will officially release the App as a component of the Concrete Scoresexhibition opening on Friday, January 17, 2014.
