The Call for Submissions was sent electronically to audio, media and art lists and was active from April to June 15, 2007. 17 submissions were received and include an eclectic array of electronic, recorded acoustic and mixed works from solo artists, duos and ensembles, one of which is performed by an Avatar Orchestra by way of the Second Life virtual reality site.
The Audiospace 2007 gallery below is open for pubic listening, viewing and input through November, 2007. Visitors to the site are invited and encouraged to make comments through the Comment function embedded in each artist's submission page, and to vote on 5 questions asked about the submissions by visiting the Interact section below. Visitor input will determine the financial remuneration available to the artists who have submitted works.

INTERACT
Listen to the Audiospace 2007 Submissions below. We invite you to comment on the works in the comment box at the bottom of this page. There was a series polls held within this web project to gather additional feedback. The Questions voted on are presented below. The first four Questions are taken from the parameters suggested in Chantal Dumas' Call for Submissions. The vote function was open until November 19, 2007, and allowed one vote per computer. The votes, as well as the general comments and the comments for each submission, were used to determine the financial remuneration awarded to selected artists. Comments on any aspect of Audiospace are encouraged. Commenting is open to anyone.

Yes, I agree - the voting is really just a way to get people engaged ... I would find it more interesting to see the thought process people use to make their decisions, and to have a discussion about the pieces. Let's see if that can happen!

Yes, seeing the results would help me make my decision. However, is it more interesting just to read people comments and thoughts on the works instead of having them adudicate based on specifc criteria? I would still vote for my friends!

It would be helpful to see the results of the voting so far for all of the questions.

I think this is an interesting concept, to make works available online. I am curious how other people feel about the idea of voting on individual works?
Art/music is such an intensely personal thing, how can one vote, even with the questions/criteria to guide one? They themselves are subjective (what is "spicy" to you may be irritating to a different palate). Making these works available online is wonderful, but ultimately, isn't the purpose to enjoy and share? Are we influenced in our likes and dislikes by how many votes or what comments others make? We vote for our own reasons, right or wrong. All the pieces have merit, for their own and varied reasons, what effect does my opinion have on what the artist has already created? How about creation for its own sake?
