Open Word: Readings and Ideas, Gillian Jerome

Open Space, in partnership with the University of Victoria Department of Writing, will host Gillian Jerome as part of its literary series, Open Word: Readings and Ideas. She will read from new work, as well as from her latest book of poems, Red Nest, at Open Space on Wednesday, January 22, at 7:30 p.m. followed by an interview by local poet Melanie Siebert. Books, beer, and wine will be available for sale. Jerome will also read that morning at 9:30 a.m. at the University of Victoria, Fine Arts Building, Room 209.

The interdisciplinary practice of Donato Mancini focuses mainly on poetry, bookworks, text-based visual art and cultural criticism.

Keith Jones has done graphic work for Nike, Mcsweeney’s, Vice Magazine, The National Post, The Globe and Mail, and Le Monde Diplomatique. He has exhibited work in New York, L.A., Scotland, Vancouver, and elsewhere.

Open Space, in partnership with the University of Victoria Department of Writing, hosted Carmen Aguirre as part of its literary series Open Word: Readings and Ideas. She read from her new book, Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter, at Open Space on Wednesday, November 20, at 7:30 p.m., followed by an interview by local writer Kevin Kerr. Aguirre also read on Thursday, November 21, at 8:50 a.m., University of Victoria, HSD Building, Room A240.
 

Kevin Kerr is a four-time recipient of the Jessie Award for Outstanding Original Script. In 2002, he received the Governor General’s Literary Award for his play Unity (1918).

Open Space, in partnership with the University of Victoria Department of Writing, hosted Emily McGiffin as part of its literary series Open Word: Readings and Ideas. McGiffin read from her new book, Between Dusk and Night, at Open Space on Wednesday, October 9, at 7:30 p.m., followed by an interview by local writer Carla Funk. Books were available for sale, and beer and wine was served at a cash bar. McGiffin also read earlier that day at 12:30 p.m., University of Victoria, Fine Arts Building, Room 209. This was also open to the public.
 

Emily McGiffin’s debut poetry collection, Between Dusk and Night (Brick Books), was shortlisted in 2013 for the Raymond Souster Award and the Canadian Authors Association Award for Poetry.

Joyce Nelson is an award-winning freelance writer/researcher and the author of five books.
