Soprano Heather Pawsey presents unheard, a multimedia recital of new works for solo voice from British Columbia composers exploring narrative experiences of women often silenced in literature, folklore, and mythology. Partially staged, and framed within photographs by artist Maggie MacPherson, unheard features world premiere song cycles from composers Jeffrey Ryan and Anna Pidgorna that draw upon texts of Vancouver Poet Laureate Rachel Rose, Greek and Sumerian myth, and traditional Ukrainian mourning songs.
Heather Pawsey maintains a busy performance career in opera, chamber music, recitals and contemporary music in Canada, the United States and Europe. She is particularly skilled in the music of our time, with a number of world premieres to her credit, and in a broad spectrum of the world's languages, including Mandarin, Korean, Taiwanese, and Cree. Heather is regularly heard on CBC Radio programs including In Performance, Two New Hours, and SaturdayAfternoon at the Opera. Recent engagements include Vancouver Opera, Burnaby Lyric Opera, Opera Viva, the Turning Point Ensemble, the Vancouver Island Symphony, the West Coast Symphony, and several recital series.
