Experiencing art can be an act of wondering, of challenging our preconceptions and biases. Whether the work is beautiful or unsettling, it invites us to ask questions about ourselves and the world around us.
To this end, Open Space presents Strange Encounters, a series of discrete installations by four Canadian contemporary artists: Jean-François Bouchard (Montreal, QC), Chris Boyne (Montreal, QC), Anna Gustafson (Salt Spring Island, BC), and Stephen Mueller (London, ON).
Strange Encounters explores the unfamiliar: experiences that are outside our day-to-day realities and that we do not entirely understand. How do we make sense of the unintelligible? It invites audiences to relish their curiosities as artists delve deeply into the commonplace to find out what lies beneath the surface of things. The work of four artists is the point of departure.
