On May 26 at 8 p.m., Open Space hosts the Nu:BC Collective at the Church of Truth, featuring flutist Paolo Bortolussi, cellist Eric Wilson and pianist Corey Hamm, with Bob Pritchard and Keith Hamel on electronics. The concert will include Dorothy Chang’s Bagatelles which was written for and recently premiered by the Nu:BC Collective. “Ever enamoured of short forms, in composing Bagatelles for the Nu:BC Collective I turned once again to my favourite musical structure: a collection of multiple brief movements.” Says Dorothy Chang about her composition. “The six pieces that form the larger work are generally light in character, exploring unabashed melodicism, splashes of colour and tongue-in-cheek whimsy.“
Also featured on the program is Ana Sokolovich’s Portrait Parle. Originally written for violin, cello, and piano, Sokolovich arranged the work for Nu:BC. Keith Hamel and Bob Pritchard will join Nu:BC to perform works they have written for the trio that include interactive electronics.
