Andrew Taggart:
I sent Ian Campbell two field recordings I had made earlier this year to be modified.
Recording #1 (50 sec) is one of the recordings I made in Bergen. The subject matter of the recording was distantly heard cannons firing and their echoes reverberating against the fjord.
Recording #2 (1:51 min) was made in Paris during the winter of 2009 in the Marais, in a district called the Pletzl, which can be found in the fourth arrondisment. In a pedestrian walkway between two main streets, an ambient recording was made.
The original recordings were made using a R-09 Edirol recorder.

Modified recording #1 (30 sec)
In 2004 I had a large studio in Montreal (far larger than I deserved in fact). Mr Taggart visited on numerous occasions and sometime in the fall of that year we experimented in an impromptu manner with some extremely cheap microphone and earphone gadgets and some materials I had. The resulting mini-dv tape soundtrack was combined with reverb, erosion, feedback and other sounds to complete the picture in my head of this brand of happy experimentation.

Modified recording #2 (4:48 min)
A new modification was created from Mod #1. Ian combined both tracks I had sent him and condensed them into a single 30-second track. I created four new tracks from Mod #1, sampling different excerpts, creating new samples that were looped and modified with resonating and reverb effects. The new voice component Ian added was isolated and was placed near the end of the new modification. The individual tracks were transposed, adjusting the rate of their individual playback. This new modification was then sent to Ian.
Modifications made to the recordings have been done using Ableton Live.
