Kerri Flannigan Residency Meet and Greet: Dumpling Collaboratory
On July 26 at 6:00 pm, join us for a community meal, pierogi making demonstration, and round-table discussion to launch Kerri Flannigan's residency. We hope to share a meal and invite community members to brainstorm workshops, partnerships, and collaborations to inform Flannigan's project and outreach. We hope to see you then!
From July 2017 - February 2018, artist Kerri Flannigan joins Open Space for a research and production residency investigating intimacies, distance, social media, and storytelling, relating to early digital telecommunications. Flannigan will be investigating Slow-Scan TV, both its robust histories within the Open Space archives and its relevant applications to contemporary issues and production. The residency employs and intergenerational mentorship model, wherin Flannigan will collaborate with artist Patrick Lichty, former Open Space directors/artists Peggy Cady and Bill Bartlett, and local youth participants. Modeling the collaboratory projects that Open Space engaged in the late 70's, Flannigan's project combines archival research, DIY skill sharing, and collaborative production, and will culminate in a series of public workshops and performances. -- Open Space (founded 1972) enacts a mandate “to support experimental artistic practices in all contemporary arts disciplines, acting as a laboratory for engaging art, artists, and communities.” As a non-profit artist-run centre Open Space presents work by artists of all disciplines, cultures and generations.
